Ingenio is a municipality located in the Southeast of Gran Canaria 24 km from its capital city Las Palmas.
In order to have a look at Ingenio you should start by Plaza de la Candelaria which is the main plaza of the city where the town hall is located. There also you can see the Church of La Candelaria which was built in 1901 on top of the old church.
Another place of interest is Casa del Reloj or the clock's house. It has a curious story as well because back in the day farmers used to go to the clock to coordinate their clocks so they all would be with the same time. Because the clock belonged to the Royal Water Rights Association they all needed to be in the same time to buy the water at the specific times they asked for.
Ingenio is also known for the International Folklore Festival which is held at Ingenio every year and people from many countries participate in it.
Lastly at Ingenio on Gran Canaria you can find the Guayadeque Ravine or Barranco de Guayadeque. In it there are some caves where natives used to live and they are now turned into restaurants where they offer local food and it's quite a nice experience.
