Ah, Midsummer … Midsummer (or midsommar in swedish) is probably the most important holiday after Christmas in Sweden. We celebrate the summer solstice (the longest day of the year), between June 20th-25th every summer. A midsummer party kit includes: flowers on your hair, dancing around a maypole and singing songs (like Helan Går) while drinking shots of Schnapps (a strong liquor that will haunt you for life). All in all, a great day out in the nature. Where is the best place to be? In Skansen, public parks, gardens, summer cottages (if you are lucky to have Swedish friends with a cottage), in fact, anywhere in Sweden will do, as long as it is outside! I went to Skansen and for a picnic at Hagaparken, a stunning park in Solna, Stockholm. (Midsummer beginner disclaimer: it most certainly will rain at some point during the day, so be prepared!)
